The Bird And The Bee cover Hall & Oates →
AWESOME.
I assume you all know the hits of Mr. Daryl Hall and John Oates (if not, shame on you) but if you’re not familiar with The Bird And The Bee, check out some of these clever music videos below. And for extra credit, listen to singer Inara George’s old solo stuff - her song “Genius” is quite self-descriptive.
The Bird and The Bee - Again and Again (unofficial...

oh, yes. it's Oh No Ono →
The Denmarkian group, Oh No Ono, experiments with music as Mew and Andrew Bird would, with a resemblance to Asobi Seksu but with more orchestration and an easygoing vibe a la Air.
They will be making their live debut in the US at Sound Fix Records in Williamsburg/Brooklyn, NY tomorrow (Jan. 26) at 7pm. This will be their warm up to two shows in the NYC area (Jan. 27 at Mercury Lounge and Jan. 28...

Care for a Danish? How about two?
I can’t pronounce their names correctly, but Efterklang and Slaraffenland rock. Both bands hail from Copenhagen, Denmark and are doing “mash up” shows together this weekend locally. Not sure what that even means, but I’m intrigued and convinced it’ll be something spectacular based on hearing their music separately. For example:
EFTERKLANG’s gorgeous,...

Iceland: Iceland.
And now we sail on over to another unproportionately talented Scandinavian country—Iceland.
Let me get the obvious out of the way: Björk is the most beautiful creature to walk this earth. Proof:
And I’m pretty sure if you die while listening to Sigur Rós you go straight to heaven, which is actually just Iceland in the sky.
Warning:...

Secret Swedes
Some Swedes are obvious. I mean Jens Lekman is so Swedish he has an Ikea box named after him. Some people, though, are not so up-front about it, like Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon and José González of José González. Very sneaky.
Both these musicians are from Gothenburg, Sweden (and regularly collaborate), but incorporate their non-Scandinavian influences into their sound. Little Dragon is funky...

– Maybe that great new music guitarist Bo Madsen is referring to his own, from Denmark-based band, MEW. In the rest of his interview with The Skinny, Madsen also goes on to say they are “the world’s only indie stadium band”.

Scandinavian musik week / The Radio Dept.
Hej! (hello)
Today marks the start of Scandinavian week here at JAMB. We know how cold it can get there, so we invite you to put on your warmest, fuzziest hats but keep the ears free because we’re going to take an audio trip there all week, featuring some of our favorite bands from Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
The first band I’d like to write...

How to know about all the new music before your...
My secret is I listen to WOXY on iTunes or on woxy.com. They have a lot of great shows and their DJs are super responsive if you request a song online, though I usually just sit back and let them drive. You can listen to WOXY all day and not hear the same song twice, and I’m always writing down songs to buy later. Two of my favorite segments are Future Sounds and the Pampelmoose New Music...

Here’s the video to Laura Veirs’ new single off her upcoming album by the same name, July Flame. I can say I’ve had the pleasure of listening to this album many, many times already and think it is one of her best to date. Really beautiful tracks, some with Jim James lending guest vocals.

WE LIKEY: Stornoway
STORNOWAY hails from Oxford, UK and sound like a mix between The Decemberists and Death Cab For Cutie, with vocals deep as The National and a touch of Fleet Foxes’ harmonizing. That’s my take on it at least. See for yourself:

Here’s a nice performance of them on Jools Holland’s show:
